The Bhutan and Nepal Trip

Before this blog got started, we went to Bhutan and Nepal.  We didn’t write electronic postcards but we took a whole load of photographs.  There’s a big load of photographs and a much smaller list which have been mildly Photoshopped using Photoshop Elements which is really fantastic for turning ok photographs into slightly more ok photographs.

I get to leave the first comment! Fantastic pics! Any anecdotes?

Strangely, there aren’t as many anecdotes as you might expect because everything went really smoothly. No getting stuck in the middle of nowhere with only a pile of warm yak dung to sleep in.

One of the interesting (and slightly surprising thing) is the food. The Bhutanese use chillies as a vegetable rather than as a spice so you find yourself sitting down at night for a nice bowl of braised chillies and cheese sauce.

Also, I missed getting a photograph of the plane coming in to land at Paro airport. It’s one of the most exciting landings anywhere in the world because Bhutan doesn’t have a huge amount of flat land and there’s a big hill in the way before you get to the (very short) runway. It’s exciting to see Dzongs and prayer flags above you when you’re flying down the valley.

How is the food in Bhutan?

Very very hot. They use Chillis as a vegetable rather than as a spice so you have “Chillies and Cheese” which is just a big pile of chillis with some cheese sauce on top. About the hottest thing I’ve ever eaten. Lots of rice and vegetables and also a brilliant local beer called Red Panda.

I’d be curious to see a “before” and “after” photoshopped pic, where color is the issue (vs brightness).
